About the Global Talent Visa
Who Can Apply for a Global Talent Visa?
To be eligible, you must first secure an endorsement as either a recognised leader (Exceptional Talent) or an emerging leader (Exceptional Promise) in your field from one of the six Home Office-approved endorsing bodies:
- Science, Engineering, Medicine, and Humanities: The Royal Society, UK Research and
Innovation (UKRI), The Royal Academy of Engineering, or The British Academy. - Arts, Culture, and Fashion: Arts Council England.
- Film and Television: PACT.
- Digital Technology: Tech Nation.
Each endorsing body sets its own criteria for determining leadership or potential leadership in your sector.
How the Application Process Works
The Global Talent Visa involves two main stages:
- Endorsement Stage: Apply to the relevant endorsing body for official recognition.
- Visa Application Stage: Once you have your endorsement letter, submit your visa application to the Home Office.
You can apply from inside or outside the UK, but you cannot switch to this visa if you are currently in the UK as a visitor or on certain short-term visas.
How Long Does It Take?
- Endorsement stage: Up to 8 weeks.
- Visa application: Around 3 weeks from outside the UK, or up to 8 weeks from within the UK.

Academia & Research
Four possible routes to endorsement:
- Academic Appointment: Acceptance of an eligible research or academic post at a recognised UK institution.
- Individual Fellowship: Award of an eligible, peer-reviewed fellowship.
- Endorsed Funder: Work on a research grant from an approved funder.
- Peer Review: Assessment by field experts, requiring a CV, a personal recommendation from a UK-based expert, and a second letter for Exceptional Talent applicants.
Digital Technology – Tech Nation
Applicants can be:
- Technical (e.g., software engineers, cybersecurity specialists).
- Business (e.g., product managers, senior executives).
Requirements include:
- CV and three expert recommendation letters.
- Portfolio of up to 10 pieces showing innovation, significant contributions, and sector recognition.
